Caitlin Harris of Carter-Ruck hosted the most recent Women Who Inspire networking breakfast on 8th April 2025 with guest speaker Jacqueline Carey KC , Criminal Barrister and Crown Court Recorder of 2 Bedford Row.
In addition to her successful criminal practice, Jacqueline has established a particular practice in the field of public inquiries. Her recent instructions include Lead Counsel to the Covid-19 Inquiry and the Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
Drawing from her own journey, Jacqueline delivered an empowering speech on the theme ‘From pupil to Silk, a female perspective of life at the Bar’. She shared insights into the challenges and triumphs of building a career in a traditionally male-dominated profession at a time when there were fewer female practitioners. Her words resonated with attendees as she spoke about mentorship, resilience, taking on new challenges and seeking support from colleagues and peers.
“Be bold” she said “discover new areas of law and say yes to new opportunities”.
Her address struck a chord- not only as a call to support and uplift women in law who are at an early stage in their career, but as a reminder of the power of authenticity, courage and community.
Thank you to all of our guests who attended.
